Rancho Santa Margarita, California Nov 21, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Dateline: Rancho Santa Margarita, California, November 21, 2022 (IssueWire) - The Santa Margarita (CA) Pop Warner Football 11U Cowboys defeated a tough Murrieta Warhawks team 22-8 to win the Western Conference (WESCON) Championship and qualify to play in Orlando, Florida. There's not much time to raise travel funds, and the Cowboys are seeking help to finance the boys' trip of a lifetime.
The Cowboys, led by former All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl Coach Mike Karney, are 8-1 on the season. After the game, Karney made an emotion-filled address to his boys, and told them that:
"There's a certain way this game is supposed to be played, and you guys embraced it. You're WESCON Champions. Don't ever let somebody tell you that you can't do it, because you just did it. And no one can take that away from you. Forever!"
The Cowboys' 23-player football team is asking for the community's support. They must fly out to Florida in just 10 days, and there is little time for fundraising. Transportation and lodging costs are over $2,000.00 per player.
