Holistic dentist Carey O’Rielly of Encinitas Champions Advanced Laser Endodontic Therapy to Save Teeth

Board Certified Endodontists Dr. Val Kanter of Beverly Hills, CA and Dr. Mark Colonna of Kalispell, MT have been lecturing and teaching other dentists about the game-changing therapy they have developed to save infected teeth. Given that there are over 20 million root canals done every year in the U.S., and up to 40% of these root canals become re-infected, there are many teeth that need saving! Detailed information, including a video of the new procedure can be found in the following article on laser root canals: https://myholisticdentist.com/2018/06/18/should-i-treat-my-root-canal-infection-or-extract-my-tooth/

In 1993 Dr. George Meinig, a colleague of the famous Dr. Weston Price, wrote a book called Root Canal Coverup. Based on equipment available at the time, especially sterilization techniques, Dr. Meinig advocated for pulling all infected teeth. Since that time, most holistic and integrative practitioners have guided their patients to opt for extraction.

However, Dr. Meinig also held out hope that someday lasers might play a role in sterilizing teeth, thus making extraction unnecessary. That day is here, with the European dual Erbium/NdYag laser by Fotona, along with the protocol developed by Drs. Kanter and Colonna.

During the procedure, antibacterial solutions are activated by two different laser frequencies to clean out and sterilize the tooth, including the dentinal tubules. The tubules are a long network of channels that bring nutrition and carry away waste from the tooth. The inability to effectively sterilize this part of the tooth’s anatomy has always been a major issue with rrot canal treatment. Additionally there is a smear layer that may contain bacteria, a film caused by the dental instruments used, which is more cause for concern. Until now.

Very often teeth will become re-infected without giving any signs, including pain. Further advances such as cone beam scans and high definition microscopes make it possible to find and treat infected teeth and failing root canals, as well as determine which patients are candidates for this progressive new treatment.

This approach, which Dr. O’Rielly of Encinitas, CA has called Advanced Laser Endodontic Therapy, treats both infected teeth and teeth previously treated with root canal therapy. Dr. O’Rielly also works with Dr. Joseph Packer, an endodontist in Encinitas, CA to treat infections around old root canals in order to leave the tooth in a pristine condition that is still biologically active. One of the ways to do this is with the use of newer bioceramic sealer and MTA, biofriendly materials readily accepted by the body without an inflammatory response.
