New York City, New York Nov 2, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Dr. Mercurio is a highly trained pediatric emergency physician at the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Emergency Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. Her areas of interest include injury prevention, traumatic disease, child advocacy, as well as pain and anxiety therapy during emergencies.

Joining the hospital staff in May of 2017, Dr. Mercurio diagnoses and treats infections, injuries, diseases, and other disorders on an as-needed basis in a 24-hour facility with nearly every subspecialist available for expert consultation.

In addition, she teaches resident physicians, students, and community providers such as paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters. She is certified in medical simulation to assist with this teaching to keep children healthy and thriving.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Mercurio graduated with her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from UMDNJ - School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010. She then went on to perform her residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. She also completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Hospital for Children at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Achieving fellowship status, Dr. Mercurio is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP). She is also an active member of the American Osteopathic Association.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. A pediatric emergency physician is a specialist in the care of children and teens who are acutely ill or injured.

An expert in her field, Dr. Mercurio has been featured on many local news channels discussing various health topics such as heat-related illness, fevers, drowning prevention and injuries, and sudden infant death syndrome.
