Wells holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Brigham Young University-Idaho and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Ira A. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Washington State and a trained operator on boom lifts, scissor lifts, and a wide range of construction and agricultural equipment. He is also listed as an inventor on multiple patents, including work related to mobile work platform safety devices.
