8-year-old, multi-talented phenom Madison B. Smart released a brand-new music video for her new song called “Smart”. The video, with over 40K views in the first week of release, is filled with positivity, creativity, and kindness. After being tormented and ridiculed by bullies, Madison came to a significant realization. She asked her parents, “Am I smart for not fighting back? If I stay who I am, am I smart?” The idea of remaining true to who she is, regardless of judgment from others is what inspired her to write the song “Smart”. The song not only centers around anti-bullying efforts, but it also emphasizes how kindness can transform relationships with peers, family, and teachers.
Working with her dad, a music producer himself, Madison, at only eight years old, was able to develop the perfect way to convey her message. Madison wrote the lyrics intending to share the lessons she learned from her experiences with bullying in hopes that it would reach someone going through the same adversities. The video, coming out in the height of National Bullying Prevention Month, is filled with positive messages about how staying true to yourself is the “smart” choice when faced with antagonizing classmates.
Growing up, her parents told her, “In order to be something in this world, you need to commit.” Madison did just that when she decided to write this song. Madison’s song has a significant influence coming from both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. Madison watched a video
with her mom in which Katy Perry expressed how everyone wanted her to encompass a personality that was to their standards when all she wanted to be was her own, unique person. Madison felt the same way. She said, “I know that I’m different and that I’m creative. From Bullied to Smart
The bullying Madison endured was very extreme and could have played out in many different ways. Because of the person Madison is, she was able to practice what she preaches, and combat hate with smarts. It was in her best interest to turn this harassment into something bigger and more powerful. Using her creative thinking and talents, Madison not only wrote the song but created many of the props found in the music video like the silver glitter roller skates and the green slime!
It was a trying time for Madison, but with the advice and constant support of her parents and loved ones, Madison learned how to stand her ground and fight bullying with love, kindness, and respect. Madison B is an eight-year-old recording artist with a strong anti-bullying message. She loves pink, her family, glitter, DIY crafts, soccer, and Unicorns! She was bullied at school for being creative, and instead of fighting back, she made up a song called “Smart.” It is a very positive song about grade school bullying and self-esteem for young girls and all children alike! The song is within the pop/rap genre, upbeat, and incredibly catchy. According to Madison, “The song’s most important message is that everyone can stop bullying by acknowledging that to be “COOL” you don’t have to bully someone else you can be cool by following your passion and being yourself!
