Top federal officials had praised the decision at the White House briefing on March 20, 2020. There is no time frame for when the order will be let up. Officials are optimistic that telling others to stay home and restrict gatherings will lighten the number of individuals that get the virus and will ultimately prevent the hospitals from being overrun with sick people. The demand for people staying home marks the strongest escalation of the response to the virus and action in modern California history.
