CALGARY, AB, October 17, 2026 -- Marda Apartments, a Built Green certified rental community at 2107 34 Ave SW in Calgary’s Marda Loop, is named after the historic Marda Theatre, which opened across the street in 1952. What is the story behind the Marda Apartments name?
The building’s signature sign was inspired by the Marda Theatre’s original marquee, a nod to one of Calgary’s best-known landmarks. In 1964, the theatre was bought by J.B. Barron, who also owned the Uptown Theatre.
The story has come full circle. Strategic Group, the Calgary-based real estate company that manages Marda Apartments, is now transforming the historic Barron Building, former home of the Uptown Theatre, into residential homes.
Marda Loop has always been a place where the community gathers, and the theatre was part of that. “We wanted our building to carry that story forward.
